CRO (Contract Research Organization) business
To develop new pharmaceuticals, it is necessary to conduct 'non-clinical trials' and 'clinical trials' to evaluate their efficacy and safety. 'Non-clinical trials' are tests that confirm the efficacy and safety of pharmaceutical candidate compounds using cells and laboratory animals. In 'clinical trials (clinical studies)', the pharmaceutical candidate compounds, whose safety has been ensured in non-clinical trials, are tested to determine whether they are effective and safe for humans.
Traditionally, pharmaceutical companies conducted all research and development processes in-house. However, due to the managerial decision that outsourcing is more efficient than maintaining all facilities and staff internally, there is now an active trend to outsource non-clinical and clinical trials to CROs (Contract Research Organizations) that possess specialized knowledge, expertise, and experience.
SNBL is the first CRO in Japan, and our CRO business consists of a non-clinical business that undertakes non-clinical clinical studies and a clinical business that undertakes clinical trials.
