Announcement Date: September 29, 2024 (Japan Time)

On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, we held the completion ceremony for the Seaway Technology Center, which was under construction on the premises (201,412㎡) owned by our U.S. subsidiary SNBL USA, Ltd. in Everett, Washington, USA. At the same time, we conducted the opening ceremony for the SNBL Global Gateway (SGG) installed in a separate building.

The Seaway Technology Center (a multipurpose industrial building) has a floor area of 17,282㎡ (single-story) and construction began in 2022 with a total investment of approximately 5.5 billion yen. The Seaway Technology Center was built to make meaningful use of the vast company-owned land, and a major pharmaceutical wholesale company has already decided to move in.

At the SGG opening ceremony, approximately 100 stakeholders from Japan and the U.S. gathered. After our Executive Vice President Ichiro Nagata delivered the opening remarks, congratulatory speeches were given by Alison Beason, head of Life Sciences and Global Health at the Washington State Department of Commerce, Consul General Makoto Iyori of the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle, Director Yotetsu Hayashi of the JETRO San Francisco office, and Professor Emeritus Fumio Ouchi of Tohoku University and the University of Washington.

About SNBL Global Gateway (SGG)

SGG is based at the facility owned by our U.S. subsidiary SNBL USA. It aims to contribute to the regional (Japan-U.S.) economic society by supporting Japanese startups aiming to enter the U.S. market and American startups aiming to enter the Japanese market. This is achieved by leveraging the network, intellectual property, and know-how we have cultivated over many years in the CRO business and translational research (TR) business, as well as utilizing the investment function of a fund newly established in the U.S. in collaboration with the SBI Group, to create and support new business opportunities and their growth and development.
